While being handcuffed, Neil told Gina, “Call Greg. He’s my other attorney. Get Connor in on this too.”

On the verge of tears, she stammered until he said, “It’ll be okay. I didn’t murder anyone, Gina. You know me better than that.”

Officer Lloyd cocked an eyebrow but said nothing. Neil quickly asked him, “Can I at least give her the keys to my house and car?”

“She can pick them up with the rest of your belongings.”

Gina cursed, holding back tears, before yelling as they led him away, “I’ll get you out of here!”

Spinning around, she made it out the door before the tears began. Spying his cell phone lying on the seat with the door unlocked, she grabbed it and quickly called Greg. He picked up right away to her tearful cry, “You have to do something. They arrested Neil!”

She winced when he barked, “For what!?!”

“Murder. Someone named Patricia Mason.”

A pause before he growled, “Oh, that fucking bitch!” After a stream of his curses, Gina slid down the car to sit on the pavement, “Greg…what do I do?”

“I’ll be right there. Are you still at the precinct?”

More distraught than she’d ever been in her life, Gina asked through tears, “Yes. What is going on?”

“Gina, let me get there and I promise we’ll sort this out. Hang in there. I’m heading out the door.”

A sob broke through on her positive answer before Neil’s cell phone showed call ended. She doubled in half, trying to gather the strength to stand while numbly wondering what was happening. No more than a few minutes passed before Greg pulled in and told her, “Get in.”

She did as told but, instead of pulling away, he parked the car before asking, “What do you know? Did he tell you anything?”

Shaking her head, she wiped tears away as she moaned again, “What’s going on?”

Pressing his lips together, he shook his head, “I can’t really tell you that right now. I need to speak with Neil first. To do that, I have to change out of these clothes. Did they give you his car or house keys?”

“No. He wants me to contact the attorney I work for too…Connor.”

He nodded as he started the car, “Call him. Have you helped your boss with any of the research?”

“A little but…”

She hiccupped on a sob before letting her boss know Neil was in jail. Nodding, she squeaked out a positive answer before handing the phone to Greg. He listened for a moment before explaining, “Correct. After discussing Carol’s close relationship with me, we thought it was best that he take matters with her to another attorney. I know of the person he’s being accused of murdering. I think you and I need to talk.”

Pulling into his drive, he gave Connor the address to his residence before hanging up. Gina took in the huge dwelling before he pulled her attention back to him when he softly said, “Come here, Kitten.”

Her gaze frantically searched his face as he reached over and pulled her to him.
